About me
I am Misla Tesfamariam and I have been working in various areas of the music industry since 2011.
Through my intensive collaboration with artists in the field of artist and label management, as well as consulting, I have been able to gain extensive national and international experience over the past 14 years. During this time, I have managed major artists with classic mainstream campaigns, while also developing creative, individual strategies for indie artists, including running their their artist-owned labels.
Over the past 14 years, I have been able to acquire a significant amount of national and international expertise through my close work with artists in the field of artist and label management, as well as consulting. Throughout this time, I have overseen traditional mainstream campaigns of major artists that I managed and developed unique, innovative strategies for independent artists, while running their artist owned labels.
From intense radio campaigns across the GSA region with Namika, dealing with an extremely large online fanbase with DAT ADAM, working on a tailored release strategy for Childish Gambino's second album, to establishing Alli Neumann as an alternative indie artist with her own label. I am proud to have developed a holistic perspective, by covering a wide range of artists, genres and topics.
In 2024, I took a sabbatical. During my time off, I came to the realisation that now is the ideal time to pursue a wish that I’ve had for a long time: I want to share my knowledge with others in order to demystify the music industry and put an end to the widespread gatekeeping.
I myself was very fortunate to have met Pharrell Williams at just 19 years old, who told me, 'I know one day you're gonna do great things.’. At the age of 23, I met Donald Glover who told me, ‘If you want to learn more about the music business, it helps if you can be around it. Why don’t you join us for a while?’. As a Black woman from a mid-sized southern German city without a pop cultural scene, it was only through encouragements like these, that I was able to imagine a career in the music industry.
Because I have never forgotten how unique my career path is, I feel a deep need to contribute to ensuring that others, who are less fortunate than I was, also have the opportunity to make their mark in the music industry. We urgently need more diversity in our ranks, not only on the artists' side but especially behind the scenes. My offering is aimed at everyone, but it places a special focus on people who, due to their background, class, or lack of contacts, have to overcome particular hurdles.
